Treasure #8: It's a field

The place where I work is great - I love it, I love the people, and our products are amazing. Still, there have been significant challenges due to some of our systems being old -and inefficient or lacking processes. These issues combine to drain the time of the sales team and create frustration for sales and other departments.

About a year ago I was in a bad place for a period of time due to wrestling with these draining, intense challenges over my first couple of years at the company.

One morning I was walking around my house praying and talking to God about these issues. As I prayed, I saw myself walking through a forest. Suddenly, I came upon a clearing in the middle of the trees. The sun was shining on this gap in the forest which was strewn with boulders, rocks, and parts of fallen trees. I quickly saw the field was a mess - but also an opportunity to plant a crop - in an unexpected and unlikely area. I quickly made the connection that our problems at work were just like this field- messy, but a hidden opportunity for a crop, once developed.

I realized through this that God has granted me special opportunities in each of the problems at work to make a difference and produce something good. I felt the pain of the issues enough to recognize the problems and by God's grace I was given the desire and the ideas to fix them.

Due to this insight and encouragement from the Lord I continued to tackle the problems at work with a renewed vision and purpose. We have fixed many issues now and created new customer value programs that are making a huge difference in the business.

I have become deeply grateful for business problems I recognize- even the ones that cause me a lot of grief. I now see God has given me hidden opportunities, "fields" to develop that others walk by or do not see at all.

That mess... may be a field God is showing you and you can say with me... Let's GO God!
