30day Put God First Test 2012: Day 17 – "How to be successful in prayer" (through failure)

I'm not having the time I need to blog daily but I'm mostly, except for a couple of alarm clock failures, keeping up with the morning prayer routine.

Today I was trying something after my regular prayer I haven't done in awhile- meditation / waiting / listening to the Lord.  This is essentially sitting in faith in the presence of the Lord, inviting Him to be with you, and saying nothing.  I had not done this in probably 9 months.  My mind drifted a lot and I kept pulling my thoughts back.  Earlier in my walk I would have condemned myself for these mental distractions but I've learned something which I'll share now.

The point of prayer (or in today's case meditation/waiting on the Lord) is our willingness, our heart to seek the Lord, and showing up.  We come to Him in simple, child-like trust, trusting Him to meet us.  Its not our job to fret or worry if there are cross-thoughts or distractions in prayer.  Its not our job to analyze the performance of our prayer time.  We just need to show up.  The lessons of prayer will be faithfully delivered, by the Lord, through the process of us making the effort with a sincere heart.  The changes necessary within us will be made as well.  Our job is to come to Him, trust Him, and show up.
