What is this? I was working so much for my job- my time with God was lacking. I am in the midst of a test in which I spend time with God each day and I don't work into the wee hours for my job anymore. I am in an experiment to show (myself primarily) that a person can put God first, seek first his kingdom, and spend time with God daily. The experiment seeks to show that if a person does put God first then not only will a crazy job and life not fall apart- it will thrive.
Looking forward to seeking the Lord this week as well as making a difference at work. I am also hoping for some progress with our Web project.
Bible Passage:
Psalm 55 - this is what spoke to me in my Psalm of the day:
16 As for me, I will call upon God,
And the LORD shall save me.
17 Evening and morning and at noon
I will pray, and cry aloud,
And He shall hear my voice.
18 He has redeemed my soul in peace from the
battle that was against me, For there were many against me.
22 Cast your burden on the LORD,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.(NKJV)
I only grabbed four verses out of Psalm 55 but there was a distinct life-pattern reflected in it. Once again today David, the Psalmist describes how people are opposing him- this time a former friend. His life seems to be at risk in today's situation but he shows a lifelong habit in v.16 in which he has already pre-decided what to do about the conflict- he will pray. He also shows strong confidence in the Lord that He will save him.
He then in v.17 lets us see a glimpse of his lifestyle of prayer. He said he prays three times a day. Daniel, that great man of God and prophet, was also described as praying three times a day. We may not be able to exactly mirror that - but the point is to have a pattern and a discipline.
In v.18 David says "he has redeemed"- so, once again he was right to pray and trust God because the situation worked out for him and the Lord did help him.
Near the end of the Psalm in v.22 he turns his attention to his readers, to us, and advises us to Cast our burden on the Lord -whatever it may be- and it doesn't say the Lord MIGHT help us. It says "He shall sustain you" - and then an even broader statement is made "He shall never permit the righteous to be moved".
All I can say about the Psalm today is WOW. We see David in almost daily conflicts. In his case those conflicts are life-threatening but do you and I have daily conflicts, stresses, and challenges? Of course we face challenges and David is showing us that even though the conflict changed today- his answer was the same. Have a lifestyle of committed, regular, daily prayer- center your life around your prayer time to make sure its on your schedule. Then, call upon the Lord and the Lord WILL save you.
He wants us to be ready for the battle by having a life centered around prayer and also to have the mindset ready that no matter what happens God will not permit the righteous to be moved.
I want to encourage myself, and you, to face the day with confidence. Did you mess up? Trust God anyway. Do you not know what to do with a situation- pray and trust God anyway. Are you overwhelmed- work hard and focus- then pray and leave it to God. Do you have conflict- follow the Lord in forgiveness- pray- then wait for his help. It all centers around God. Lets go with real confidence today.
Last thing- I have this daily quiet time but today's talk of prayer has really challenged me to see if I can gradually add more prayer to my life. I'm thrilled to have this daily time as a start- again its just a feeling of needing more.
I'm out of time! Have to go to work. Lord, here are some quick requests:
* Heal little "M" at my daughter's school.
