The pattern of David I am finding in Psalm 119 is much like my own life and it makes me think this is the common pattern of anyone who seeks the Lord. He seeks the Lord diligently and puts nothing in a place ahead of the Lord, he prays, he studies God's word, and tries to do right. Yet, he continually goes through a cycle of various afflictions and attacks - but even in these he trusts the Lord, finds meaning in them, learns from them, and winds up making it through them.
For example, Psalm 119:109 "My life is continually in my hand, yet I do not forget Your law." This lifestyle pattern is also illustrated by this verse, Psalm 119:165 "Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble." -- so, those who seek the Lord and love his Word have great peace and even though they actually go through trials and troubles- ultimately nothing can take them down.
