The Business of Selling: Focus Items

All – in our busy jobs it is absolutely essential to set reminders for key tasks. You can simply set reminders on email messages or you can put reminders in your actual Calendar (I do both). This is a best practice for success- and to make sure you are following up often-enough with important things. It ensures you will not drop the ball. Every now and then I will have someone comment about my diligence in following up on an outstanding item- and I just tell them I live on reminders. I use my best judgment to see what things are timely and set a reminder accordingly.

This practice will do a multitude of things for your career and your overall well-being:
• Help you close deals faster and provide a higher-level of customer service which will make you money.
• Differentiate yourself from competitors.
• Differentiate yourself from others who choose to not improve in this area.
• Reduce your stress.
• Reduce the cloud of doubt about what you should spend your time on.
• Help you create the (true) appearance for management, customers, and peers that you are on top of your game.
• Show everyone you have a sense of urgency.

After you have followed up on an item and re-scheduled it for another follow up touch more than 2-3 times you need to reach out to management so you can work together to escalate and try something new.

Having automated reminders is a key of being crisp, focused, and on top of things- and it works.
