Day 2 in Nicaragua part 2

Got to visit the orphanage today after late lunch

Blake and Ashley from Pensacola are on their second year of commitment at the orphanage and just had their first baby.  Blake gave us a little tour.

Little Josuey sitting next to the worker was one of my little pals although I found out his story has been sad lately.  His best friend was adopted recently and he obviously wasn't and he has been having some outbursts.  He goes to the Alas de Dios Christian preschool on La Finca so we've seen him every day so far.

Blake had to go pick up the older kids from public school so I got to go with him.

Heading into town to get the orphanage kids from school

Arrived at the school

He found a little bird but we told him he couldn't take it home

Very old church downtown across from the school

Kids are ready to go home!

Playing with the kids before dinner, the orphanage has a great little gym

Goodnight!

Day 2 in Nicaragua

Good sleep in Hotel Cafe last night followed by breakfast today downstairs in the hotel.  You have a few options including the "Typico" which is beans mixed with rice, fried plantains, round French bread they toast and call toast, plus scrambled eggs.  Or they have an "American" which is ham, eggs, and toast.(guess what us Gringos got)

Riding through some traffic in town to get back to La Finca farm and school.

One of our travelers, Jennifer, has known the Rojas's (our neighbors who lead these trips) from going to church with them a few years ago.  She recently lost her job and is using the forced free time to come down.  Very bold to put the job search on hold to come here.

Melissa, another U.S. Traveler is loving it here.  She loves the simplicity, the people, the hospitality, and the fact that in a simpler area things boil down to food and shelter.

My kids are getting used to the flies that are everywhere.  I am proud of how they are responding to all of this.  They are working on learning Spanish, playing with the kids a lot, and have helped with some projects.

Here, Noelle, Jennifer, and Melissa are cleaning and sorting beans that will be cooked for the kids later.

Soccer!!

Our kid's main job on the trip is love

We built a washer pit for the kids to play with, this is before

Day 1 Nicaragua Part 2

Visit to trash heap where 35 families live

A trash home...so sad
Flies everywhere

Trash ball game

Burning trash and buzzards

Two of our school kids are taken from here every day, out of hell into heaven for a few hours.

Huge expense for this nonprofit ministry to bus the kids from poor areas like this every day.  Two average Texas families fund this themselves out of faith.

After washing and sanitizing we had lunch back in the city of Jinotega at Olivo.  Dramatic change for sure, kids are exhausted and tired.

Day 1 Nicaragua

Our group traveled until 4:00am to finally arrive at our hotel in Jinotega, Nicaragua, an area with a poor population although the region has some solid natural resources such as coffee and cacao (cocoa).

We came with a group of 10, and I brought my daughters Noelle and Maddie.

We started with a visit to La Finca, a farm where a mission school has been started.  Our goal was mainly to show our group and to love on the kids.
Visiting the kids in school.
