What I am doing in going to Nicaragua

I have had a desire to start international orphanages in third world countries since my early 20's in Bible College.  I have often wondered how I could ever be involved in something like that since I now have a very busy full time job and awesome family.  Five years ago we moved into a new neighborhood and our next door neighbors, Christians, minister in various arous of need in Nicaragua - they too have visions of orphan ministry.  This is quite an amazing thing to have the same vision as our neighbors! (It could be a God thing for sure!)

I am on the plane right now from Houston to Minagua, Nicaragua to join my neighbor Martin and his brother in law Eric on a mission trip.  We will be there through next Saturday.  On this trip we will be taking a twelve hour jungle boat ride ((12 freaking hours!!!!!????!!??!!))

On the Cocoa River to get back into some insanely deep jungle areas.  We will be ministering and sharing the Gospel of Jesus and getting to know these people. We will also be delivering a lot of medicine tablets that kills the parasitic stomach worms that steal nutrients out of the people - apparently very hard on the children who often have bloated bellies full of worms.  A single ten cent tablet kills these worms.  We will also be bringing back from the villages a couple of small children who need cleft palate surgery.

My family knows that another personal motive I have for going is twofold:
- scout out the situation and see if I think there is also a good opportunity for city bassed ministry for my family
- scout out possible orphan-orphanage ministry opportunities

I'll post when I can, and when I have access.  When I am in the jungle I am going to try and save posts as drafts to then post up when I have access again.
